WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

This workshop is for any person who:

-
Practices, teaches or is curious about yoga and wants to go deeper into their personal experiences and reflections.
-
Has ever been unsure, insecure, or curious about how to practice yoga without causing harm or unintentionally disrespecting the cultural elements of yoga
-
Is interested in learning from the teachers, aunties, grandparents, and Desi/ South Asian voices and traditions, that add depth to our practice and bring yoga alive in our daily lives.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Leave with a better understanding of how yoga philosophy relates to our modern lives, some of the problems that confront yoga today, and several healing practices you can take into your life.

WHY STUDY THE ROOTS OF YOGA?

Yoga is not just exercise, it is a spiritual path. Neglecting the origins of this practice is cultural appropriation and has bred a Western business model and mindset based on theft and disrespect for a thousands-year-old history. Studying the history, philosophy, and ethics of Yoga is one of the many ways we honor this history, create an authentic practice, and avoid appropriation.
Usha Lakshmi
Usha's spiritual journey is all been about breathing, practicing, teaching, and simply being. She has been a yoga and meditation practitioner all her life and believes that her quest for knowledge is never-ending. Her Yoga practice extends beyond her mat and is the central source of her grounded life. Usha teaches Yoga Philosophy and Asana at West Chester University and through the Yogabhyasa Kalari School of Yoga.
Kristin Schultz
Kristin's journey with Yoga has led her on many explorations toward the true aim of yoga - that of complete unity. Her work as Director of Leadership at Zia, as an Ayurvedic Wellness Coach, and as a community advocate acts as an invitation to choose connection over separation and to make waves in the wellness industry by challenging norms, disrupting systems, and mobilizing people to be in action to create transformative social change.
